We have lived in Scotland since 1996 and love this country, its tempestuous climate and far reaching varied landscapes. We would even go as far as to say it is one of the few remaining unspoilt wildernesses in Europe. Scotland is uniquely special, inhabited by common and rare wildlife, flora and fauna over much of the mountains, glens, rivers, lochs and seas. Equally dramatic is the incredible Geology that goes back millions of years and a fascinating human history by thousands...
Whatever Scotland holds it remains beautifully spellbinding and inspiring everyday across all paths. However, we must also remind ourselves and acknowledge the vital importance to tread this ever fragile country like the rest of the whole planet with the utmost care and respect.
As seasoned campers in one form or another, it has to be the VW California that was the real game changer! In 2012 without the slightest hesitation we decided to go for the most perfect in form, design, functionality and comfort... The VW California T5 was bought and within a year californiascotland.com naturally fell into reality.
Today we remain a personal well honed small business who wish to share the beauty of Scotland in a modern, efficient and comfortable camper van and taking individual care, time and attention to all our clients. Compliment this with a well thought out amazing array of extras to enhance and delight your Scottish experience!
We upgrade our VW California Ocean DSG Automatic Camper Vans every year. Introducing the new T6.1 California Oceans “Santa Rosa” “Santa Monica” and “Santa Ana” was a real pleasure. The T6.1 is the best California yet. All this fine tuning, so you can discover Scotland in style, and wish to revisit again and again!
VIEW THE VW CALIFORNIAWe hope you are safe and well and have not been badly affected by the coronavirus
We all have a great responsibility. It would not be right to spread the virus. Out of an abundance of caution, each of our California Oceans will be rested, and then all Interiors, seat covers, contents and linen will be thoroughly deep cleaned between hires. Our Handover will be more contactless, with Face Masks mandatory and Hand Sanitiser replacing our usual handshakes and hugs.
visitscotland.org has created a RespectProtectEnjoy Visitor Charter.
This asks you to observe physical distancing rules and take all necessary precautions, including wearing Face Masks when required, using Hand Sanitiser and frequently washing hands.
As the most popular spots will likely be overrun, it also suggests you travel to lesser known areas. If the area you are visiting is busy, explore somewhere different. More than ever, slow down, travel less, stay for longer, and really get to know an area. You will find many wonderful opportunities to walk, cycle and paddle. walkhighlands.co.uk has more insights.
We recommend that you stay at campsites, advise you contact them as they will be running at a lower capacity, and book ahead. If you have to overnight somewhere else, please respect the environment, local and rural communities privacy, and leave where you stay as you found it.
We are making our own Isopropyl Alcohol Hand Sanitiser and Hand Made Organic Herbal Soaps for clients to buy. We also hire Popaloo chemical free Eco portable toilets and pop up tents. See our Extras Page for more information.

We are more than happy to help you. We will send you website links to assist the planning of your trip, and share with you our knowledge of routes to take. We supply a roadmap of Scotland as well as Ordnance Survey Maps, Rough Guide to Scotland, Wild Scotland Book, Walking Books and information leaflets.
We can direct you to cool campsites, the best fish and chips in Scotland, Whisky trails, whale and dolphin viewpoints, great roads and more...
Our aim is for you to have a fantastic and memorable time, whether walking in Glen Nevis, cycling the Black Isle, kayaking on loch Morar, snorkelling off Arisaig or just relaxing on a secluded beach.
We are based 15 miles south of Edinburgh, down a private farm track in the heart of Midlothian.
